Frivolous Friday

Oh what a week. So full of family and friends and warm food. Despite the nasty weather, it was a week to remember. This weekend Dearest Carl and I are snuggling up to watch Netflix's new Series of Unfortunate Events and wait out the ice storm they say is coming. Hopefully Sunday will hold a ladies lunch at church and then a trip to the bookstore with Olivia. Because some things are essential no matter what kind of precipitation there is.

Frivolous Friday

Happy Friday! How was your week? Mine was just right, not too fast, not too slow. We've been eating turkey in salads and sandwiches and soups all week and there are still leftovers. Is it okay to feed turkey to the cat? Just kidding... kinda...

This weekend we have a wedding and I'm planning on trying to break in my snow boots a little more. Plus I bought chai tea at the grocery which means the homemade chai tea lattes will be flowing at our house! And there's enough cheese for a cheese plate at some point. It's going to be a good one for sure. What are you up to this weekend?

Something has changed within me

Go go goat cheese

Some good resolutions

Frivolous Friday

How can it be almost 2017? Didn't we just do New Years? Time flies when you're having fun. I hope you had a good week! Mine was lovely. Both Dearest Carl and I took the day off Monday and we hung around the house, munching on chex mix and playing video games. Tuesday I was able to start work with a smile on my face, ready to get 'er done. I guess that's what a little break will do for you.

This weekend we're having a nice ol' shindig for New Years and I'm looking forward to games and food and a houseful of people! Because that's what our living room is for. What are you up to?

Frivolous Friday

Only two more sleeps! Are you ready? I've been basically living in my kitchen this week and now I have one cheesecake to make and then I'm done making desserts. Probably for a month. We're so lucky to live close to family so our Christmas day is nice and relaxing, hitting up three rounds of presents and delicious food within a few miles of our house. It's the best day of the year.

Frivolous Friday

What an amazing week! Even though I'm still working on getting rid of that cold, we managed to have a week that was both productive and relaxing. My gallery wall is hung, I had a great trip to IKEA yesterday with my mom and picked up several things for our living room, we watched a few Christmas movies and now, we're looking at a weekend of chilling and having fun! I'm hoping to give the cat a bath and hang our new living room curtains tomorrow. And I have an outing with Olivia to look forward to on Sunday! Yes, it's going to be the perfect intro into Christmas week.

Frivolous Friday

Anybody else need a good dose of Friday this week? For some reason, everything took 100x longer than a normal week and I worked into the evening a few times. But on the up side, we're moved into the living room!!! Or at least mostly. (Nobody is looking forward to moving that piano.) We set up the tree the other night and I've been slowly pulling out more Christmas decorations and brainstorming my gallery wall. Maybe that's why work has been so slow?

This weekend is so packed with Christmas cheer! Dearest Carl and I are going to a Christmas concert tonight (my mother-in-law is one of the violinists), I have a Christmas brunch with the ladies at my church tomorrow morning, we're having the fam for pizza tomorrow night and we'll wrap it up Sunday night by caroling at the old folks home. All accompanied by Christmas music and hot chocolate.

Enough about me. What are you up to this weekend?

Candy canes and silver lanes that glow

Holiday breakfast food rocks

Frivolous Friday

Happy Friday! I hope you survived the week alright. Dearest Carl and I kept quite busy ourselves but we managed to watch a few Christmas movies and drink some eggnog. This weekend I'm having a Harry Potter movie marathon with my sister-in-law and there will be popcorn and peppermint mochas and wonderfulness. Dearest Carl will hopefully be finishing up our living room floor this weekend but we'll see. First, pizza tonight and the late showing of Fantastic Beast and Where To Find Them!

What are you up to this weekend?

Practical hygge

Wintery white Christmas Eve

Plus great Advent ideas!

Frivolous Friday

When you are awake just shy of 24 hours on Thanksgiving, you sleep in until noon. But at least I've got a few goodies for those of you who are snuggling at home today! How was everybody's Thanksgiving? I hope you're enjoying all your leftover turkey sandwiches. Over at our Thanksgiving with the Watkins, the turkey was eaten, I got my sweet potato casserole and my maple pumpkin cheesecake was a hit! We stayed up ridiculously late eating popcorn and watching Ghostbusters with everyone so we stayed in bed a little longer this morning. But I'm still making breakfast for lunch because there's bacon!

This weekend will involve lots of Christmas music and present wrapping and unwrapping and more time with the Watkins family and eggnog. And by George, I'm going to get out as many Christmas decorations as I can without putting things in the living room. I have high hopes that we'll be able to get our tree up in a beautiful finished living room by next weekend!!!! What are you up to this weekend?

Frivolous Friday

Less than a week until Thanksgiving! And I have a confession to make. I listened to Christmas music this week. Only once, one afternoon while I was trying to write a Christmas themed article with zero motivation. But I cracked and I did it. Some of you will applaud me and some of you will sneer. That's okay. I just had to get that off my chest.

What are you up to this weekend? I'm not sure what our weekend plans are but whatever they are, they'll pale in comparison to next weekend and Thanksmas with the Watkins family. We also participate in the Drumstick Dash and we all dress up for fun. This year, I get to be a princess in a blue dress. Can you guess which one? :)

Frivolous Friday

What a week. Is anyone else feeling a little bit battered today? Between the stress of work and all the election news (and resulting feelings and discussions on both sides) and the painting of our living room, I'm plain ol' worn out. Dearest Carl also had a few late nights so we're both kind of running on empty.

This weekend I'm off to the woods for our church's Women's Retreat that couldn't come too soon. It will definitely be a good weekend of girl time and a reminder of where our hope lies. Dearest Carl will be busting out house projects (and eating this) while I'm gone and we'll begin our last week of living room work on Monday! Lord willing and the creek don't rise...

What are you up to this weekend? You have my permission to make pancakes and take it slow cause we all need that.

Frivolous Friday

Good morning! How was your week? Mine was ever so full, writing and getting lots of work done. Our church's Women's Retreat is next weekend so there is lots to do for that but I think I've finally got a handle on it. This weekend Dearest Carl and I will be mostly at home, getting stuff done on the house and drinking hot spiced cider and snuggling the cat. And after a week that had a few late work nights, we really need a little rest. What are you up to this weekend?

Also, shoutout to my little sister who turns 16 today! I'm old...

Frivolous Friday

Happy Friday! Everyone have a good week? Mine was fantastic. It was so slow and restful and wonderful. Both Dearest Carl and I were home all week, working on the house and eating raspberry sorbet and watching library movies. Just what I needed after the past few weeks of running crazy. And to top it off, this weekend we're off camping! It was a tough decision considering there is still so much work to be done in our living room, but Dearest Carl decided it would be good for us. So we're going. It's gonna be campfires and hikes and marshmallows and laughs all weekend long. The best.

Frivolous Friday

What a week! It's had it's really high highs and it's really low lows. But it's finally Friday. And I totally forgot to share my biggest news with you last week! We're going to Iceland! A friend of ours found insanely cheap plane tickets and Dearest Carl actually decided to go for it! It's pretty awesome. We'll be gone for a week in late January/early February which means I'll turn 25 in another country. Another beautiful amazing faraway country! I'm so incredibly excited!

Okay enough of that. What are you up to this weekend? We've got events back to back on Sunday so tomorrow is going to be one of those days where the oven doesn't turn off. Because when you're asked to make dessert, you make cheesecake.

Frivolous Friday

Finally! Anyone else feel like this week took forever? I felt like it should be Thursday on Monday night. Whew! Well, first off, can I just say how proud I am of my husband this week? He had a really busy week for work and he still busted out lots of hours on the house. The water lines are this close to finished and we're planning on hanging drywall tomorrow! Big stuff people!

What are you doing this weekend? We're starting it off tonight with a bonfire at my family's and tomorrow, we're having a little work day to get that drywall hung and then hanging out with my best friend in the evening. Sunday is blissfully free but we'll see how long that lasts. I plan on slowing down and enjoying cider and kitty snuggles and books this weekend. It's gonna be good.

Frivolous Friday

Weekend!!! We made it! I have to say though, this week hasn't been as full and stressful as I thought it was going to be. I've had the week off writing which meant I had time to renew my library card and bring home a stack of books, purchase a few Fall clothing staples, have lunch with my cousin and just let my shoulders relax. Yesterday I spent most of the day working on menus and reading and listening to classical music. It was a wonderful thing.

What are you up to this weekend? Dearest Carl and I are bookending the weekend with birthday parties for family but for the rest of it, there will be laundry and cookies and housework to do. And that wonderful stack of decorating and cook books from the library that I plan on enjoying immensely.

Frivolous Friday

Happy Friday! I can't tell you how delighted I am with these cooler temperatures! I've probably had a dozen tea lattes this week. They're just so perfect for an Autumn evening.

What are you up to this weekend? Dearest Carl and I are having a bonfire with friends tonight and then we're heading north tomorrow for a day at The Feast Of The Hunters Moon. We missed last year so I'm super excited to go again! Hello best root beer in the whole wide world. Plus, after a super busy week, it will be so wonderful to have Dearest Carl to myself for a few hours in the car. There are couches and calendars to discuss.

Frivolous Friday

Now that we've officially hit Fall, I'm going all in. I'm bringing out my Fall clothes and boots no matter what the thermometer says. And I'm gonna start making tea lattes in the evenings. And I'm going to plan bonfires with people! So many plans, so little time.

What are you doing this weekend? Our church is hosting a women's event tonight and then tomorrow, I have brunch club with my mom and grandma and sisters. After that, it's all downhill and house chores and relaxation. We finished Stranger Things this week and I gotta say, I'm not cut out for scary stories. So we're rewatching Parks and Rec for like the third time. Vote Knope!

Frivolous Friday

Happy Friday! In case you were wondering, the Mac n' Cheese recipe turned out delicious! Definitely one that we'll be returning to. I also made two loaves of banana bread this week which made our house feel all warm and cozy. So yeah, it was a good food week.

Dearest Carl and I have a cookout with church family tonight and tomorrow is Work Day at our church. I also fully intend to bake cookies. But other than that, the weekend looks pretty slow for us! We finished watching The Office this week so I've been watching random favorite episodes of Dr. Who and we're probably going to start Stranger Things, the one everyone's been raving about. Have you seen it? What are you doing this weekend?

Frivolous Friday

It's Friday right? I've been messed up all week since our Monday holiday! But it has been a pretty good week nonetheless. I got a bunch checked off the To Do List, Dearest Carl got our new front door installed (with the help of my Dad), I made two loaves of pumpkin bread and I scored a couple deals at Half Price Books! It almost doesn't get better than that, folks.

Tonight we're kicking off the weekend with pizza and swing dancing! Then tomorrow we have a baby shower for my sister-in-law and since they'll be in town, we'll probably spend most of the weekend at the Watkins hanging out with them. Oh, and we'll be eating all the pumpkin bread I made.

Frivolous Friday

Thanks for all the lovely anniversary wishes! It was truly a wonderful day. Dearest Carl surprised me with roses and chocolate and dinner at one of my very favorite restaurants, The Melting Pot! And he let me pick the chocolate fondu. So he got a lot of brownie points yesterday and I'm looking forward to a weekend together, working on the house and doing just a few other special things. Because how else do you celebrate a long weekend?

Also, can I just say that the weather here was gorgeous yesterday? It makes me a bit sad that I didn't get to spend any time outside! But I pulled out my Fall nail polish for our dinner out and I'm thinking over some Fall decorating and burning out all my summer candles as fast as I can. Are you ready for Fall?
