Inspired By...

This year I've decided to reformat these posts. I'm inspired by so many images that it can be time consuming to choose only six. Plus, I'm a writer, not a photographer. Writing is part of what this blog is about. So this year, for these Inspired By posts, I'm going to choose one image a month and some words. They might be my words, they might be other people's words, they might relate to the month, they might relate to my life. But just so you know what to expect for 2017. Here goes nothing.

Hygge is the ritual of enjoying life's simple pleasures.
The absence of annoying and overwhelming.
An invitation for closeness and warmth.
Hygge is cozy.

Hygge is lighting a candle whenever you are home.
Building a fire to warm up the cold fireplace.
Watching the light flicker on the walls.
Hygge is flame.

Hygge is gathering around the table for supper.
Sitting down together after the daylight is gone.
Telling the days stories and enjoying company.
Hygge is family.

Hygge is turning on the porch light to shine into the night.
Ushering through the door into warmth and light.
Clinking glasses and passing plates.
Hygge is hospitality.

Hygge is kneading dough and grating cheese.
Wrapping up in blankets with plates of pizza.
Watching the family classics again.
Hygge is movie night.

Hygge is smelling the grounds as soon as you pop the lid.
Brewing cup after cup into your favorite mug.
Stirring the cream and sugar.
Hygge is coffee.

Hygge is browsing the shop for that winter read.
Hearing the spine crackle and pop with the first open.
Reading into the wee hours because you can't put it down.
Hygge is books.

Hygge is the ritual of enjoying life's simple pleasures.
The absence of annoying and overwhelming.
An invitation for closeness and warmth.
Hygge is cozy.
